My Visit to London

While I was in London last month I went to Kew Herbarium. Alex George (the Australian liaison officer) showed me some specimens from their archive - the actual dried plants collected by Georgiana!! She sent them by ship to the collector James Mangles around 1840. Standing there in that old building in London, being allowed to touch a specimen that she had first touched in Western Australia, so long ago – was an amazing moment! Even better, it was a wattle – the WA emblem and in flower right now all around my house. I felt as if I’d finally got really close to her.

Also saw a wedding dress in one of the museums, date was 1830 – embroidered with flowers. Not hers, but gave us a good idea of the style etc. Wouldn’t it be fantastic to find her wedding dress – or anything she wore!

I did the same! I visited Kew Herbarium just to see Georgiana's specimens in May 2016. It was a dream come true for me.
